I’d been looking around for a while for a new PC suitable for our living room, including meda-centre features, and capable of general stuff. I’d been looking at specs and prices on Inspiron and Studio desktops for a while, keeping things like memory etc down to keep the price down, with the intention of upgrading later.

I then noticed an XPS 420 had £300 off on day two of the Dell Days of Deals. I had a quick look, and this had a great spec, and did almost everything I wanted as standard (I had to add a TV tuner). It has a great processor, loads of memory and a huge 1.2TB of hard disk space.

The deals on Dell Days of Deals actually last for two days, so I considered it for a while as it was slightly more than I would be spending on another model, but wouldn’t need upgrading for quite a while. Luckily, yesterday, when I had to make my mind up, Dell released a 5% voucher that could be applied to XPS orders over £799 – with the TV tuner added my system was eligible!

So, I got £300 off with the Days of Deals, and an extra 5% (about £40) off with the coupon! Note, although the £300 off deal is over, there is still £200 off the spec I bought, although you need to link straight to it to find it – it doean’t seem to be listed on the main XPS page.
